DR. CLARA SARROCCO NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF COUNCIL
ON NATIONAL LITERATURES AND DIRECTOR OF THE CNL ANNE AND
HENRY PAOLUCCI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTER.

On Friday, November 18th, 6 to 8 PM, Council on National Literatures will honor Dr. Clara Sarrocco, who was recently appointed, by unanimous vote of the CNL Board of Directors, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CNL and DIRECTOR OF THE CNL/ANNE AND HENRY  PAOLUCCI INTERNATIONAL CENTER  in Queens. New York.

A Doctor of Arts graduate of St. John’s University, Dr. Sarrocco is a member of several community and academic boards, including that of the C.S. Lewis Society, whose newsletter she edits.

After early retirement as a high school English teacher, Dr. Sarrocco joined CNL in 2001, as Executive Assistant to the President. Earlier this year, she was singled out, by the New York State Senate as one of “Ten Distinguished Women in Queens”.

In her new position, Dr. Sarrocco will organize events hosted by CNL at its Center in Queens; will contact potential lecturers, artists and performers for CNL programs; and, as Editor and chief contributor of CNL’s Book Digest, a quarterly review of important new titles, she will expand that publication, currently distributed to libraries, here and abroad.

Her new assignments will also include networking between other groups, especially Griffon House Publications and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, a national academic-oriented organization.

The November 18 program will feature a presentation to Dr. Sarrocco by NYS Senator Serphin R. Maltese and a mini-display of recent paintings by award-winning jog portrait artist Constance Del Vecchio Maltese, who will speak about her latest work.

CNL was founded in 1975 as “a forum for scholars and teachers concerned with the comparative study of the established, emergent, and neglected national literatures that make up the written and oral artistic legacy of the diverse contemporary peoples of the world,” For over three decades it has been the parent group for two major, world-wide publications, Review of National/ Literatures (1970-2001) and CNL/ World Report (1976-2001). Its work has been called a “pioneer effort.”

The event will take place at the CNL/Anne and Henry Paolucci International Conference Center and will be followed by a reception.                             - 30 -
