COUNCIL ON NATIONAL LITERATURES is an academic non-profit educational foundation, with members in over 40 foreign countries, as well as the USA and Canada.  Through its major monograph series, REVIEW OF NATIONAL LITERATURES, it has provided a forum for multi-comparaitve literary studies in an organic and systematic approach to literatures not in the traditional mainstream, as well as occasional theme and author studies in a more traditional comparative approach.

Through its second annual series, CNL/WORLD REPORT (launched in 1985 to replace the earlier CNL/QUARTERLY WORLD REPORT pamphlets), CNL has provided a continuing dialogue on matters concerning the future of comparative literary studies in a global spectrum.  Members receive both RNL and CNL/WR, as well as occasional "bonus" items.

Member libraries - The British Museum, the Sorbonne, the Bodleian, the University College of Dublin, Tel Aviv University, the University of Haifa, the University of Hong Kong, the National Library of Scotland, Sogang Univeristy in Seoul, the National University of Singapore, the University of South Africa, Ichigaya Campus Library, the University of Malaysia, Lagos University, the University of Canterbury, the National Library of New Zealand, The Royal Library of Sweden, the Australian National University, and many others both here and abroad.
